They compared same-sex marriage to a marriage between an uncle and a niece. Or between
two children. No, we're not talking about Rick Santorum. We're talking about the Obama
administration's Justice Department. The brief the DOJ presented defending the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA) in federal court was not just wrong. It was offensive. The New York
Times called it "disturbing" in its lead editorial.
Back in the days of the 2008 campaign, Senator Obama promised he would work to overturn
the Defense of Marriage Act. But now that a gay couple in California is challenging DOMA
in federal court, President Obama has chosen to take action to defend a law that prevents
legally married same-sex couples from receiving any federal benefits, or from having
their marriages recognized in other states.
I just signed a petition to tell President Obama and Attorney General Holder to withdraw
this offensive brief and apologize for its contents. (The website also has a great video
of Rachel Maddow and Howard Dean discussing the importance of this issue!) Please have a
look and take action.
From the Human Rights Campaign:
"Sarah Palin not only supported the 1998 Alaska constitutional amendment banning marriage equality but, in her less than two years as Governor, even expressed the extreme position of supporting stripping away domestic partner benefits for state workers. When you can't even support giving our community the rights to health insurance and pension benefits, it's a frightening window into where she stands on equality."
*She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
*Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
*She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
*Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
*She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
*She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
*How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.
From the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund on Palin's "scant two years as governor"
*husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum)
*lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling
*pushed for more drilling off of Alaska's coasts
*sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science.
As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.
*approved a $400,000 state-funded campaign to defeat the ballot initiative that would have banned aerial hunting (where hunters are allowed to slaughter wolves from helicopters)
From U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
*The Vice President is a heartbeat away from becoming President, so to choose someone with not one hour's worth of experience on national issues is a dangerous choice.
*If John McCain thought that choosing Sarah Palin would attract Hillary Clinton voters, he is badly mistaken. The only similarity between her and Hillary Clinton is that they are both women. On the issues, they could not be further apart. Senator McCain had so many other options if he wanted to put a woman on his ticket, such as Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison or Senator Olympia Snowe -- they would have been an appropriate choice compared to this dangerous choice.
*In addition, Sarah Palin is under investigation by the Alaska state legislature which makes this more incomprehensible

What I am looking for: Someone mature and kind, who has stability as a person. Ages 18-22. Someone who strives to make themselves a better person. A lady who cares about other people, but doesn't care about what they think of her. Makes some effort (though it doesn't have to be much of one, and too much effort is a turnoff) to look better. Someone who doesn't mind short people, because I'm 5'4". Someone who can make me laugh, and who cares about everyone around them. Someone who would wipe my tears away, but not tell me to stop crying.
What I am not looking for: No high schoolers, please. I may be a freshman in college, but I am at a place in my life where I can't always be the leader, and high schoolers tend to require something of the sort. No full-on butches or femmes... soft butch makes me happy, because I'm a very VERY soft butch myself..
Music I listen too: Almost everything, but my favorite music is metal, usually symphonic metal.
Anything else?: Add me on AIM! My SN is illumaXOangel .
... What the Hell., if you have MySpace, add me there too! http://www.myspace.com/nathalsa
Name: Amanda, but I've gone by Sky (long story, hah!) and Manda before. Call me Mandy if you'd like to get glared at :D Haha.
Age: Seventeen, but people tend to think I'm way older on the internet for some reason.
Location: Blackstone, Massachusetts (Rhode Island border!)
Self labled as: Lesbian. And a big bad lesbian at that. :D
Years been out: Three as a lesbian, and I was out as bi for a little while. The second I realized I was not straight I was out, though. I kind of wear stuff on my sleeve.
School: Senior in high school, hopefully heading off to Framingham State College for a major in English and a minor in Secondary Ed.
Single?: Very. Sigh.
What I am looking for: Intelligent, sweet, MATURE, sense of humor a mile wide, not afraid of physical affection.
What I am not looking for: girls unsure of their sexuality (sorry, ladies, but I really want something serious and I'm not looking to be a guinea pig...), immaturity, racists, dishonesty, flightiness...I'm pretty easy to please. Have a brain and we're gonna be buddies.
Music I listen too: COUNTRY. and LOTS of country. A little bit of random other stuff, but mostly country. My favorite is Sugarland/Jennifer Nettles, who is...guh, sorry, I just went to my first concert and saw them live and I about died. Pretty much.
Anything else?: Don't write me off because of my age ^.~ Most of my girls have been at least four years older. I'm generally pretty serious, but I can be funny and silly and dance with the best of 'em. I like to write, and I write a lot. I am a horse person, so please be okay with being second best to my four legged beast (that I do not have yet, so you're safe until I get my first one :D). I also have a young Aussie Shepherd puppy. Don't hate dogs, or we won't work. Actually, don't hate anything fuzzy and four legged. I'm an animal person ^.~! I sing, a lot, and I am very bad at it, but I ain't gonna stop! I LOVE to sing, even if it makes people want to cry (haha!). I hate surprises when I know I'm about to be surprised, but random little cute things will make me love you forever. Be maternal and warm and I won't be able to get enough of you. I get celebrity crushes, but they mean nothing.
I just rambled forever. Haha. I fail.
AIM: happyrainbowsx :D
I have pictures, but I'm not really willing to fight with my MySpace (my computer seems to hate MySpace today) to retrieve them. Pop me an IM and I can probably get them to you ^.~
Ok, I am a single 26 year old cute lesbian. I don't have a picture here but I can send one through my aol e mail. I am fair skinned, dark brown hair and eyes, 90lbs and 4'10. I am fem, but do not have a certain type I am looking for although I do tend to be attacted to more fem soft butch types. So, if you want to know more drop me a comment.
